Ghiacciaio dell'Argentière

Vallée de Chamonix (Fr)
Distance3,5 km
Difference in altitude 90 m
Duration 2 h 15 m
Difficulty Easy

Description

Today, the glacier is cut in half and its terminal part is fed only by the fall of seracs, facing the viewer.
By listening and waiting, you can see the glacier moving. It is thus possible to see one of these sections of ice break off!

From the cable car exit, take the wide road in front of you in the direction of the Lognan refuge and the balcony on the Argentières glacier. Do not go down towards the refuge, but continue this road avoiding the intersections on the right. The entrances to the tunnels at the base of the cliff and the perspective on the seracs mark the end of the excursion. The return is made by the same route.
